After School

After I graduate from John Abbott is to gain a better understanding of whether graphic web design is truly my path in life. My immediate goal is to complete my internship and secure a job as soon as possible.

My plan

So, my main goal would be to generate an income, so I can do whatever I want, whether it be to choose another path, finally splurge a bit, or continue with my studies at university. Having money is a big factor in my decision-making, so finding a good job after college is my main objective.

I’m practically free all summer so full-time isn’t an issue. If I had to continue with my studies, it would probably be something in the gaming industry. I hope that I can eventually achieve this dream of working for a big game company like Riot Games, but for my short-term goals, I would focus on money and my skills.

My desire

Speaking of skills, I have a deep passion for art and a strong desire to continually improve. I’m always impressed with the artistic talent in the gaming industry, whether it be the designer of the game, the cutscene of the story or, the unique character design, it never ceases to amaze me, and I’m eager to become a part of it. This year marks the first step toward achieving that goal.

My projects

Additionally, I have a personal project that has been on my mind since the beginning of this year. It’s a bucket list item I’ve always wanted to pursue—a webcomic. I hope to at least begin working on it by the winter of 2023-2024.

My path

Plan A

My ideal career would be in the gaming industry, and Riot Games has always captured my interest. I’d love to work as an artist, contributing to character design or crafting new universes for in-game cosmetics. Alternatively, a role in the marketing team or advertisement section would also be appealing.

My reasons

My passion for Riot Games stems from their iconic creation, League of Legends, which has been a part of my life since childhood. Their storytelling, world-building, and impact on the esports scene have deeply influenced my artistic preferences, and I aspire to have a similar influence on future generations. In the long term, I aim to be able to work comfortably from home, if not, I don’t mind working around the world.

Plan B

If this path doesn’t materialize or if I gain a better understanding of social media, I might pursue an independent career as an online artist or a webcomic author. Joining a team on a creative project is also something I’d consider, as I enjoy being part of large-scale endeavours.

For instance, I’ve been working on a comic project for the past year, which has helped me refine my art style and storytelling skills. My goal with this comic is to create a captivating world that people can enjoy. On the social media front, I’ve begun my journey, but I recognize there’s still a long way to go before I am satisfied with the quality of my work.

The backup’s backup

I love graphic design, the way it lets me play with my media to try and showcase my design to my clients and the world is almost like a puzzle to me. Having a career in graphic design, especially one related to illustration would also be a dream of mine, being able to create something that hundreds will see.

Navigate your way to the John Abbott Agora, marked on your maps, where a celebratory gathering is set to unfold on the 10th of April. This soirée is dedicated to honoring the remarkable accomplishments of the GWD cohorts of 2024. Prepare to be dazzled by a magnificent display, accompanied by delectable wine and crackers to appease your appetite from 5 PM to 7 PM. Join us in revelry as we toast to creativity and innovation in the world of design!

Join us at the vernissage to see the amazing projects created by the graduating class of John Abbott College’s Graphic Design program. We’ll be displaying the best works during our 3 years of studies, including illustrations, packaging, web design, magazines, print layouts, stickers, and much more. Each with their own unique design.

Feel free to drop by, as we’ll have wine and cheese available for those interested in a light snack. You’ll have the opportunity to chat with the third-years and learn more about their projects. Don’t hesitate to greet us; we’re a friendly bunch!

I’m very proud to be a part of this year’s class. I couldn’t ask for better teachers and peers during my time at John Abbott. My experience here has been truly remarkable and I’ll cherish it for a long time. I’ve forged new friendships and gained better knowledge over my creative process. From learning most of the Adobe creative apps, like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and many more. I’ve also grown to love creating, as well as doing my best, putting my very all into everything, rather than just making by.
